Standard Army: UK Danny and The Vintage SBC Collection
| This is a letter from our buddy Danny Harris in response to the huge props he is recieving for his collection of vintage/historically relavent Standard Byke Company products. With his email he said we could edit it to death if we needed to, but I think this is good to go as is.
Thanks Danny. Danny Harris England,UK 39 ,disabled but still rolling on 20s…
I started riding in 1979 at the legendary ROM skatepark and never stopped, still at it today..god I sound old haha I started building bikes after I had a brain aneurysm and lost the sight in my left eye and both my hips had to be replaced with titanium the riding was very painful but wanted to keep with the sport..its part of me.
So as I had kept a lot of my stuff over the years a perfect opportunity arose that I could now get these bmx frames rebuilt. I am a moderator on radbmx a unique old school bmx forum and the help I get from members is second to none.
The guys that inspired me then and still today are obviously Rick Moliterno and all the u.s.a Standard riders ..the brotherhood. The UK guys James “hitcher” Hitchcox, Mike O’Connell, Rob Ridge and Mason Smith with our Chris Job the font of SBC knowledge..
As the 90s and 2k was the quieter “dark ages” I found it harder to source parts and info apart from in magazines,so the worldwide hunt began. the friends i have met along that journey are amazing but managed to get a lot of stuff that way….
Standard Byke Company is rider owned and all about the bmx not the corporate hype, and I felt at home as I am more of a mini ramp /flatland rider with the odd bit of street thrown in when I’m feeling brave.
You can go to old school bmx shows like we put on at radbmx but the stuff I liked was thin on the ground so it was magazines or not much else. Getting these bad ass standards up and running was a great challenge…my bikes all get ridden. The guys at SBC hooked me up with some gems recently and as I love the STA so much built me a custom model that I now ride… I have 17 standards and 30+ others from other companies but they are getting thinned down so I can have more room for more SBC all the best and thanks to everyone at the Goodtimes SuperStore…. Standard Byke Company…. Danny Harris
